WhatsApp business verification is three checks: business verification, display name approval and the Official Business Account badge. What each one does, the five badge criteria from Meta, and why trust is still built in the replies.

WhatsApp business verification is three separate checks, often confused. Business verification confirms your company to Meta and lifts your messaging limit. Display name verification decides whether your name shows in the chat. The Official Business Account adds a blue checkmark, at Meta's discretion. None of them answers a customer for you.

What do people mean when they search for WhatsApp business verification?

We read the fifteen suggestions Google returns for "whatsapp business verification" (probed on 15 October 2026, South Africa). A large share are about the six digit code that never arrives, which is a phone setup problem, not a trust problem. The business searches are clear: "badge", "process", "price", "cost" and "blue tick". The search for "whatsapp green tick" is still busy too, with "verification", "price" and "green tick vs blue tick" among its suggestions.

That last one matters. Meta's own developer documentation for the Official Business Account, read on 15 October 2026, describes a blue checkmark beside the business name, not a green one. Many guides online still say green. If you are chasing a green tick, you are chasing an older name for the same badge.

What are the three kinds of WhatsApp verification?

CheckWhat it confirmsWhat it changes
Business verificationThat your business portfolio belongs to a real, registered businessIt is one of the routes to a higher messaging limit, and a requirement for the badge
Display name verificationThat your number's display name meets Meta's naming guidelinesOnce approved, your name can appear at the top of chats and in the chat list
Official Business Account (OBA)That your number belongs to an authentic business that meets Meta's criteriaA blue checkmark beside your name, and your number can be found through WhatsApp search

Meta also sells a separate subscription called Meta Verified. It is a different product with its own terms, so check Meta's own page for whether it is offered for your account before budgeting for it.

How does the WhatsApp blue tick process work?

According to Meta's Official Business Accounts documentation, a number is eligible to request the badge when all five of these are true:

  1. The business complies with the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy.
  2. The business has been registered on the WhatsApp Business Platform for at least 30 days.
  3. The business portfolio that owns the number has passed business verification.
  4. Two-step verification is switched on for the number.
  5. The number's display name has been approved.

The request is made in WhatsApp Manager, under the number's profile. Meta reviews it and replies. If it is declined, you wait 30 days before asking again. Meta also states that it does not grant the badge to WhatsApp Business app numbers, test accounts or employees' numbers, so a business still running on the free app cannot get it.

What does verification actually buy you?

Two things are real, and both are worth having.

  • You get found. Meta's documentation notes that a number without the badge does not appear when someone searches for it inside WhatsApp, unless they have already saved it. With the badge, a customer can find you without your number on hand.
  • You can send more. Under Meta's messaging limits, a new business portfolio can start conversations with 250 unique customers in a moving 24 hour window. Verifying your business is one of the paths to 2,000, after which Meta raises the limit automatically while your message quality stays high.

Display name approval adds a third, quieter benefit: your business name appears at the top of the chat instead of a bare number. Meta notes one catch. If a customer has saved you under a name of their own, their name wins.

What does verification not buy you?

A badge tells the customer who you are. It does not tell them you will answer. The trust a customer feels after the first message comes from what happens next:

  • How long the reply takes, especially after hours.
  • Whether the person who replies can see the last conversation, the quote and the invoice.
  • Whether a message to the sales number reaches someone in sales, or sits in a phone in a drawer.
  • Whether the follow up happens without someone remembering to do it.

Verification also does not lower your messaging costs. Meta's per message pricing still applies, and from 1 October 2026 it includes service messages. We covered the pricing change in WhatsApp service messages are now charged, and how teams share one number in WhatsApp Business with multiple users.

How does NexBrand handle verification and the replies that come after it?

NexBrand is NexBDM's omni-channel communications platform, set up and managed for you. The verified number is the front door. The platform is everything behind it.

  1. The number is set up on the WhatsApp Business Platform, not the app. That is the only route to the badge, and it lets a whole team work one number.
  2. The verification checklist is done once, in order. We prepare business verification, switch on two-step verification and set a display name that fits Meta's guidelines, so the five badge criteria are in place before the request goes in. Meta still makes the decision.
  3. Every conversation lands in one inbox. WhatsApp, email, website chat, social messages and missed calls arrive in the same place, attached to the same contact record.
  4. Messages route to the right person. A new enquiry is assigned to sales, a job question to the person running the job, and an unanswered chat raises an alert before the customer gives up.
  5. After hours is covered. An instant acknowledgement goes out, the enquiry is captured to the pipeline, and the follow up is scheduled for the morning instead of left to memory.
  6. Templates are approved once and reused. Reminders, quotes and review requests go out from approved templates, so the messages that cost money are the ones you meant to send.

The result is a number customers can trust on sight, and a team that earns the trust in the replies. More on the inbox side in what an omnichannel inbox is and choosing a WhatsApp CRM.

What changes for the owner?

You stop treating the badge as the finish line. The number is verified, the name shows, and every message that comes in is seen, assigned and answered from one screen. Instead of checking three phones and two inboxes, you check one place and know nothing is waiting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the WhatsApp verified tick green or blue?

Meta's current developer documentation describes a blue checkmark for Official Business Accounts. Many older guides still call it the green tick. Both names refer to the badge shown beside a verified business name.

Can I get the blue tick on the free WhatsApp Business app?

No. Meta states it does not grant Official Business Account status to WhatsApp Business app numbers. The number must be on the WhatsApp Business Platform, with business verification, two-step verification and an approved display name.

What happens if my verification request is rejected?

Meta asks you to wait 30 days before requesting Official Business Account status again. In the meantime you can still fill in your business profile, including picture, email, website and description, and keep messaging customers.

Does business verification increase my WhatsApp messaging limit?

Yes. Verifying your business is one of Meta's paths from the starting limit of 250 unique customers per 24 hours to 2,000. After that, Meta raises the limit automatically if message quality stays high.
